Opposition chief whip Zainul Abedin Farroque has been injured in police attack during the early hours of the opposition-sponsored 48-hour countrywide shutdown.

He was injured while leading a procession in front of the parliament building.

The BNP headquarters at Naya Paltan was cordoned from Wednesday morning as the BNP-led opposition alliance started enforcing the lockdown from 6am on the day, demanding reinstatement of the caretaker government system and an end to 'public sufferings'

A good number of police also barred the BNP supporters to hold rallies or processions there.

Movement of motorised vehicles was thin on the city roads, which were dominated by rickshaws.

Although inter-district buses stayed off the roads, the authorities claimed that operation of trains, launches and flights was usual. [source bdnews24]
