Congress president Sonia Gandhi has received Swadhinata Sommanona award on behalf of former Indian prime minister late Indira Gandhi for her contribution to the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
President Zillur Rahman gave away the award to Sonia, daughter-in-law of Indira, at a programme at Bangabhaban on Monday afternoon in presence of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Earlier, cabinet secretary Abdul Aziz read out the citation of the award.
Born on Nov 19, 1917, the former Indian prime minister was assassinated on Oct 31, 1984.
She was elected prime minister four times from 1966 until her assassination.[source :
